• Periotomes are used for carefully detaching the marginal gums and the desmodontal fibres.
• The flexible tip helps tool to reach the apical area of the root and seperate it from the marginal gums.
• Dental periotomes sever periodontal ligaments during atraumatical tooth extraction.
• These instruments may also be used during routine extractions, though they are particularly important when extraction is followed by placement of dental implants.
